2008 is one of the most legendary Champagne vintages in decades. This is a family-run empire that has survived and thrived for seven generations, over two centuries, in the heart of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. They own 100 hectares of their own grapes, and contract out with some of the greatest growers for another 300 hectares – all spread across 40 Grand Cru sites throughout the Champagne region. Their vintage cuvees get the choice picks of the top lots and this is exactly what this wine is all about!

65% pinot noir and 35% chardonnay, with a scant 4 g/l dosage, and an incredible NINE years on the lees in their over 2 kilometers of carved chalk cellars. A big house like this, with sales opportunities in every corner of the world would only agree to such a long elevage for one reason… quality. This has it in spades. Toasted brioche, lemon, orange zest, crushed oyster shell, peaches and cream, brightened by notes of tarragon, lemongrass, and a flinty, zippy, salty finish. Wow. This is so good, I’m going to need a magnum just for myself. Only 3 cases! At the best price anywhere!!! To the fastest fingers go the spoils!
