Why We Love It...
Welp, that went even faster than we anticipated! We did say that Gallimard was super-limited, so no angry emails, please. We’ll do our best to get more one day soon. But… onwards and upwards, we say! Champagne Salmon is another favorite – who just happens to do pinot meunier better than almost anyone else in Champagne (yeah, we went there).

Fresh off the container from France, this special bottling of 100% pinot meunier grapes is a rare treat! Hailing from the small town of Chaumuzy, Champagne Salmon is a three-generation winemaking family founded in 1958. They exclusively maintained their grower-producer status for the last 30 years, keeping things small and always “in the family”. They farm 10 hectares (85% of which is planted to pinot meunier) situated in the Vallée de l’Ardre, a commune on the western edge of the Montagne de Reims, roughly halfway between Epernay and the city of Reims. This is a tiny production winery that exports only 10% of its production… which is why we are absolutely thrilled to have a few dozen of these available today. Did we mention it is a solid $80 below retail? It is Magnum Madness, after all…
The wine is singing its glorious stone fruit song, balancing creamy richness with cheek-tingling freshness, and developed notes of bold hazelnuts and toasted brioche, with gingerbread and sweet white raisins. Seductively unctuous and as pure as the driven snow, this is the perfect time of year to dive headlong into this sort of bubbly. Under $100 for a rare and beautiful creature like this? Who loves ya?
Fun Fact: Winemaker Alexandre is a competitive hot air balloon racer, and all three generations of the family are avid aviators… hence the balloon on the label. Cool, right?

About the Producer
The Salmon winemaking legacy spans three generations, and their history of growing grapes stretches back even further. Michel, the grandfather, was born and raised in Chaumuzy, a sleepy little town in the Ardre Valley. He worked in the vineyards most of his life before acquiring a plot of land for himself. In 1958 he produced the first vintage, a grand total of 500 bottles. Today he still hangs around, but his son Oliver and grandson Alexandre maintain the day to day operations and total annual production. The Pinot Meunier grape likes the climate of Domaine Salmon. It draws its strength from the harshness of winter and its fruity flavors from the humidity of its springs. Our clay-limestone soil brings minerality to the grapes. At harvest time, its large black grains with white flesh look great. They offer the palate gourmet nuances which will give its champagne its dense color and its taste notes that are both light and deep.
