Why We Love It...
The Ginglinger-Fix family was one of our best discoveries in Alsace. We first met them about 5 years ago in France – and were immediately blown away by the quality across their entire portfolio. They have been making wine since 1610 (yes, 1610) focusing on tiny batches of traditional Alsatian varieties – riesling, gewurz, pinot gris, etc, and are rarely, if ever, exported to the U.S.! Their Cremant d'Alsace Rosé is even rarer!

Set amongst a fairytale backdrop – with the snow-capped Swiss Alps standing ominously above the Jura Mountains – you’ll find the good folks of Ginglinger-Fix. Their estate here in Alsace has been in the family's hands since 1831. They have seemingly always farmed this 7.5 hectare plot – one that was derided as far back as 1771 with the notion of being unsuitable to farming… “The soil is so full of gravel and stones that it doesn’t give back the seed of the grains.” Maybe so, but it makes ideal land for tending world-class vines, as long as you can find those willing to put in the work!
While the winery is best known for their Grand Cru riesling and gewurztraminer, it was their stunningly crisp and layered cremants that first grabbed our attention. This rosé is 100% pinot noir, aging for 12 months on the lees, and riddled by hand before disgorgement. Fresh and aromatic, the wine opens with notes of red cherries and strawberries, with a watermelon jolly rancher accent. The palate is nicely dry and chalky, with more red berry notes, some pomelo, ginger, and touch of lime zest. The finish is refreshingly tart and bright – making this a very food-friendly offering that is nevertheless quite the easy sip all on its own! This is a great wine to have in the fridge at all times, and for all occasions – at UNDER $20 it is just impossible to have too much!
